One made a ticket said he cannot preview specific one PDF file in the Outlook, while other files do not have problem.
When he tried to preview the PDF file in Outlook, he got this error:
Can’t Create file: xxxxxxxxxx. Right-Click the folder you want to create the file in, and then click properties on the shortcut menu to check your permissions for the folder.
The problem is caused by SAME FILENAME
Outlook saves every attachment in a temporary folder, if there has already exists the file with the same name, Outlook will append a number to the original file name, like:
However, once you have had 100 attachments with the same name you will get the error message above.
To solve this problem, we only need to delete all the files in the Outlook temporary folder.
So where is the temporary folder?
Outlook created temporary folder with a random name, for protecting the viruses and male-ware from finding the attachments. And Outlook keep this folder path in the register (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Security) with the key name:
To find this key:
1. Click Start - Run
2. Type "regedit"
3. Click Edit - Find
4. Type "OutlookSecureTempFolder"
5. Click the key OutlookSecureTempFolder
Then we can find the path of temporary folder like this:
C:\Users\Slyar\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Content.Outlook\1NJVE73T\
(where 1NJVE73T is a random path)
To fix the problem above:
1. Copy this path and navigate to the location.
2. Delete all of the files in this folder.
3. Restart MS Outlook and the attachment should be able to open without any errors.
